Certified Defense Financial Manager with Acquisition Specialty™ (CDFM-A™) 

What Is the CDFM-A? 

The CDFM-A is a specialty credential awarded to professionals who have earned the Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) designation and passed the Module 4 Acquisition exam, which focuses on defense acquisition competencies. This specialty certification demonstrates a deep understanding of acquisition processes and is recognized across the Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Coast Guard, and defense industry. 

Eligibility Requirements 

To pursue the CDFM-A, candidates must: 

  • Hold an active CDFM certification. 

Certification Process

Begin your journey by submitting the CDFM-A application through yourSDFM account.

  • Download and carefully review the Candidate Handbook, including the exam blueprints in the appendix. 

Exams can be taken online with remote proctoring or at Pearson VUE testing centers on and off military bases, worldwide. The Module 4 Acquisition Exam is a two-hour exam with 80 multiple-choice questions.

If you are not already CDFM certified, you will need to submit the VFME form, signed by your supervisor. 

 

  • Complete 80 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours every two years, including 2 ethics CPEs. (If you are already CDFM certified, your CDFM-A recertification cycle will align with your existing CDFM cycle.) 
  • Submit documentation to maintain active status.
